For practical reasons, most of the information on this website is in English, but we would be more than happy to address your questions in German.
Where: We hold classes on Madison’s east side at 4200 Buckeye Rd in the lower level of the Lake Edge United Church. We share the building with the Monona Grove Nursery School and the church congregation. Parking is located in the back parking lot off of Hegg Avenue and access to the lower level is easiest through the back door.
Who: The German School of Madison — Deutsche Schule Madison is a parent-founded non-profit organization (501(c)(3)) located in Madison, Wisconsin. We offer affordable, high-quality German language classes for children with and without prior knowledge of German, as well as adults. Our teachers are native or near-native speakers, with advanced degrees and extensive teaching experience. All classes are taught in German and follow the curriculum of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. We also organize preschool classes for small children and family-friendly cultural events for German-speaking families in the Madison area.
When: Classes are offered throughout the school year (generally in line with the MMSD calender — no classes during winter break or spring break) and are taught on Saturday afternoon broadly between 2 and 5 pm. Additionally, we offer summer camps for children entering 1st-5th grade.
We are working towards being recognized by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen, ZfA) as a feeder school for the German Language Diploma (Deutsches Sprachdiplom, DSD) and strive to hold comparison exams (Vergleichsarbeiten).
