On a chilly day our lanterns brought light and cheer to the neighborhood. Lantern songs, campfire bread, roasted marshmallows, hot cider — what could be better? Thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated St. Martin with us and especially to all those who helped organize — Krista Spiro, Philipp Müller, Mary Ellen Rutemeyer, as well as several parent volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you! All pictures © Ralph Grunewald.

Don’t you wish you would have been there?
You are cordially invited to our annual St. Martin’s Day celebration on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 4pm, at Shorewood Hills Community Center (901 Swarthmore Court)! Enjoy a campfire gathering, lantern parade, and a potluck dinner. This event has become a dear tradition in our community and we hope to see many friends, old and new. All welcome!
- one lantern per child (see here for our make-a-lantern workshop on Nov. 6)
- a contribution for the potluck meal — main dish, side, salad, or dessert
- if possible, your own plates, cups and cutlery.
Please deliver your food and other items you want to leave (no valuables) to the community room before heading out again to the fire pit, where we will meet to sing a few St. Martin’s songs, led by members of the Madison Männerchor.
Around 5 PM we will head out for the lantern parade through the Shorewood Hills neighborhood (we recommend warm and reflective clothing). After the lantern parade, we will meet again at the community room and enjoy our potluck dinner.
If you have any questions , please contact our event coordinator Iris Hengst (iris at charter.net)
We hope to see you there! In the meantime, click here for pictures from last year’s event.
